Video Views by JC: Daft Punk – Epilogue

Daft Punk has left the building.

Answering the question; ‘is it better to burn out or fade away,’ definitively, after twenty-eight years of monumental musical contribution and influence, the group that defined Futurist Pop and helped popularize electronica has made the sober decision to self-destruct. Leaving the entire planet calling for an encore, they announced their assumedly amicable divorce earlier this week. During their nearly three decades of prominence, they made it their mission to put the music first, and destroy the rules – even the ones they unintentionally made for everyone else along the way. Impossibly original and undeniably powerful, two humble dance bots made history – all while making us shake our collective booty.

Typically of few words, the duo departed with no explanation, and instead, shared a clip from their 2006 film, Electroma. The nearly eight minute sequence leaves little unexplored. Two robots enter the screen, but only one remains. The track’s lyrical refrain repeats blissfully, a bitter-sweet note to fans, and a last message for all time: Hold on. If love is the answer you’re home.

Check out Epilogue, and hope for a musical afterlife that grants reincarnation.
